More Reliable Power Electronic Converters
About this Topic
Power electronic converters (PECs) are crucial for harnessing energy, electrifying society, and enabling emerging applications like wireless power transfer and microgrids. As PEC penetration increases, cost, performance, and reliability become critical. Failure of PECs can lead to blackouts and potential accidents. Rigorous testing, reliability standards, and physics of failure modelling are essential for studying the aging process of PECs. This talk discusses assessing and improving the reliability of two-port and three-port DC/DC converters. Additionally, the talk will cover modelling and delaying the aging process of power transistors. The discussion will also touch on remedial actions for critical applications requiring uninterrupted power supply, including fault detection and self-reconfiguration of PECs to ensure continuous power supply.
