Geo-Spatial Mapping of Learning Networks and Engagement

About this Topic

Geo-spatial data can be used to map data objects, phenomenon, and characteristics with location. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) combine spatial data into organized layers and enable integration of multiple data sources to aid data analysis, trend analysis and visualization. The benefits of geo-spatial include identifying target areas for specific student recruitment, geographic models to visualize data otherwise lost in spreadsheets, build learning networks between learners and alumni, and assist with developing work integrated learning networks. This seminar will demonstrate a GIS developed to visualize: the location of CQUniversity students and alumni to build peer networks; the location of employers to build networks between students, placements and work integrated learning opportunities; the location of high schools, courts and law related activities in specific locations; and how to connect all the moving parts to build engagement in regional catchments.
