Estimating Strain Intrinsic Transmissibility via Invasion Timescale Thresholding: A Nonlinear Dynamics Approach

About this Topic

The talk will explore a model for the spread of an infectious disease driven by two competing strains. The focus will be on understanding how the ability of one strain to dominate the other is influenced by two distinct strain-specific traits. A novel nonlinear dynamics approach will be presented to disentangle this influence, providing new insights into the drivers of strain invasion.

Dr. Abdullah A. Al-Shammari

Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Kuwait University

Dr. Al-Shammari is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Kuwait University, specializing in Mathematical Biology. He holds postgraduate degrees from the Courant Institute at NYU and the University of Oxford. He has held prestigious visiting positions at the University of Leeds and the University of Oxford and actively collaborates with biologists and medical professionals through his associate position at the Dasman Diabetes Institute. His research integrates mathematical and computational models to study biological systems, with a focus on nutrient transport, capillary supply, and epidemic transmission. He is recognized for pioneering methods in O2 transport modeling, including the development of trapping regions in heterogeneous media and a computational framework for image-based modeling. He currently explores novel methods for estimating ecological traits in epidemic models.
