Computational Fluid Dynamic Simulation of Turbulent Reacting Flows

About this Topic

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a powerful tool for design optimization. In this talk, Mohammad will share his 20 years of experience in CFD simulations for various energy conversion systems. He will briefly introduce different modelling approaches for turbulence, chemical kinetics, and the interaction between these phenomena. Mohammad will then discuss several applications in energy conversion systems where such modelling tools are crucial in design optimization. These applications include gas turbine engines, aerospace propulsion systems, gas flaring in petrochemical industries, and his recent work on the design optimization of natural gas reforming reactors for hydrogen generation and carbon capture to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Salehi

Senior CFD Researcher, Ekona Power, Canada

Mohammad Mahdi Salehi is a senior CFD researcher at Ekona Power. He utilizes CFD modelling to optimize natural gas pyrolysis reactors to decarbonize natural gas and generate hydrogen. Before joining Ekona Power, he was an assistant professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department at Sharif University of Technology (SUT). His primary research interest is turbulent combustion modelling. He developed OpenFOAM solvers for turbulent reacting flow simulation. He taught thermodynamics, combustion, numerical methods, aerospace and the environment courses at the undergraduate level, and computational fluid dynamics, combustion and advanced viscous flow at the graduate level. Before joining SUT, he was a Post-Doctoral fellow at the Center for Interactive Research on Sustainability at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from UBC and his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from SUT.
