AI Revolution in Geotechnical Engineering

About this Topic

It is almost impossible these days to escape the new technologies and concepts such as Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In the field of geotechnical engineering there is currently a rapid increase in innovations linked to the development of these technologies. One aspect that will be considered in this presentation is how AI models can help in transforming data into knowledge/tools that geotechnical engineers can use to optimize their designs. This presentation highlights different applications of AI to predict many aspects of geotechnical engineering where uncertainty exists such as soil properties, constitutive relationships, prediction of settlement, bearing capacity and internal erosion. Applications at different scales will be considered as well.

Speaker

Dr. Rodaina Aboul Hosn

Assistant Professor – Civil Engineering Department

Dr. Rodaina Aboul Hosn is an accomplished academic with a strong background in geotechnical engineering. She is Assistant Professor at the Australian University, Kuwait and Adjunct Research Fellow at Curtin University, Australia. Previously, she worked as a lecturer and researcher at ESTP – Paris, France. She received her Ph.D in Civil engineering, Mechanics and Materials from the University of Grenoble Alpes in 2017. Rodaina's research interests primarily lie in ensuring safe, optimized, and sustainable design of geotechnical structures through numerical modeling, laboratory and field tests, and the integration of advanced technologies and approaches for problem-solving and innovation such as Digital twin, Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.
