The Maritime Department at the Australian University (AU) is continuing its efforts to accredit maritime training programs. A specialized team from the General Directorate of the Coast Guard has authorized AU to conduct training and issue certificates for the Basic First Aid course and the Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities course, which are among the basic maritime competency courses recognized as mandatory for personnel working aboard ships in accordance with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW).
This recognition follows the recommendations of the Director General of the Coast Guard, Brigadier General Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al Yusuf Al Sabah, regarding the importance of offering and accrediting various academic maritime programs and training courses for their significant role in developing professionals in the maritime sector, and seafarers in general. The delivery of Certifications of Competency (CoC) courses in Kuwait is a crucial step towards issuing official certification of competence and eligibility for captains, officers, maritime engineering and seafarers under the authority of the General Directorate of the Coast Guard.
It is worth noting that the Maritime Department has recently earned the confidence of the General Directorate of the Coast Guard to offer several specialized courses, such as the Nawkhatha A course, the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) course, and the specialized course for Port Facility Security Officers.
