A group of AU faculty and staff members recently visited NBK Hospital as part of the Picturebook Club’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Led by Dr. Fajer Bin Rashed, the Picturebook Club was launched in Spring 2025 as a literacy project dedicated to the university’s staff and faculty. During club sessions, members explore how to select, approach, and use social and emotional learning picturebooks when reading to children.
During the hospital visit, volunteers from the English Language Program, College of Business, Maritime Department, and the Office of the Assistant to the President for Support Services came together to read English and Arabic picturebooks to children. AU donated gift bags to the young patients, while Little Bees Bookstore generously contributed bilingual picturebooks to the hospital’s library—making it a heartwarming day of learning, giving, and community connection.
