The Department of Management at the Australian University (AU) is committed to providing a solid foundation in business management with a hands-on, experiential learning. We aspire to develop business leadership to transform the lives of our students and provide the industry with ethical global leaders who are sensitive towards protecting the environment and are passionate about making significant societal contributions.

The department offers two pathways; a two-year Diploma of Management and a Bachelor of Business Management (2+2) for diploma graduates who continue for an additional two years, both built around AU's experiential learning model and delivered by faculty committed to excellence in teaching and research.

Entry Requirements

Requirements for Entry

Admission to AU's Diploma and Bachelor degree programs is based on high school academic performance. For Business programs — including the Diploma of Management and Bachelor of Business Management — applicants from government and Arabic private schools need a minimum overall average as shown below; applicants from other international school systems need the equivalent minimum GPA. Both the Scientific and Literature streams are accepted.

All applicants must submit a true copy of their High School Certificate (authenticated by Kuwait's Ministry of Education, with an English translation), a valid passport and Civil ID copy, a personal photograph, and proof of English proficiency — either AU's own English Placement Test (KD 25 fee) or a recognized certificate such as IELTS (minimum score of 3) or TOEFL iBT (minimum score of 71). Graduates of foreign school systems must also submit their transcripts along with an equivalency letter from the Private Education Department.

AU's Diploma of Management is a general business qualification for students who wish to gain a broad understanding of management principles and practices across a wide range of business areas including accounting, finance, economics, marketing and human resources.

Students complete 60 credit hours over two years to acquire the Diploma of Management. Graduates may continue directly into the Bachelor of Business Management (2+2) to complete an additional 60 credit hours over two more years.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Diploma of Management (0-2) are able to:

  • Identify leadership characteristics, activities and skills
  • Implement and evaluate the change management process
  • Recognize the concept of cross-cultural management and apply it in various situations
  • Identify and describe the operations management processes
  • Apply research-based concepts concerning innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Manage the development and improvement of products and services

By successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Critically analyze and apply a broad and coherent body of theoretical, technical and applied knowledge of Management and its applications in organizational contexts.
  • Apply effective verbal and written communication skills to present in a clear, coherent manner within the organizational and social contexts and for audiences from government, employees and employers, community and business markets.
  • Select and use a range of computer-generated and digital technologies, numeracy in applicable ways to generate, manage and disseminate information.
  • Productively participate, contribute and engage in teams to produce collaborative outcomes.
  • Build leadership skills and able to take on individual roles and exercise professional and analytic judgement and reflection in relation to managing organizations.
  • Investigate, analyze and synthesize information, problems, concepts and theories and formulate socially responsible, professional, ethical and effective business solutions related to commercial and social improvements in business practices.
  • Develop and apply academic knowledge in a professional setting.
  • Obtain through electives in-depth knowledge and understanding in more specific related areas.

AU's Bachelor of Business Management program provides students with general business management education and technical knowledge necessary to enter the management profession and to pursue a successful professional career. Students study topics including entrepreneurship, strategic management, human resources, business communication, business ethics, and organizational behavior.

Students complete 60 credit hours in the first two years to acquire the Diploma of Management. Upon completion of the Diploma, students continue and receive the Bachelor of Business Management if they complete a complementary 60 credit hours during two additional years of study — 120 credit hours in total.

Program Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Management (2+2) are able to:

  • Discuss the importance of the global business environment and its interconnection with core management processes, systems, and structures
  • Demonstrate an understanding of management and its impact on organizational culture, change, and diversity
  • Identify, compare and contrast the main theories, methods and techniques of organizational change management
  • Contribute to an organization's success through increasing the effectiveness of its workforce
  • Recognize the dimensions of the entrepreneurial behaviors of innovation, creativity, and risk-taking
  • Know the principles of quality management and the peculiarities of their implementation
  • Identify and evaluate the role of operations management in the overall business strategy of the organization
  • Explain and apply methods of valuing companies, using different models and other commonly used methods
  • Review various options for the management of product and service innovation using both theoretical and practical approaches
