Solar Convection and Magnetic Buoyancy

About this Topic

The complex interactions driven by magnetic fields are behind the structure and appearance of the Sun. Motivated by a desire to greater understand this dynamics, we explore the formation of coherent magnetic structures deep within the solar interior. In order to produce strong structured magnetic features as displayed on the solar photospheric layer, magnetic fields must pass through the distortion and shredding of the turbulent convection zone. In this talk, I will present three-dimensional numerical experiments that mimic the competing effects of the overlying turbulent convection on magnetic concentrations, with results revealing interesting characteristics of the magnetic field which are believed to contribute to the mechanisms involved in the Sun.
