Variational Basis for the Finite Element Linear Elastostatic Problems
About this Topic
Finite element analysis can be regarded as a tool for obtaining the approximate solution to differential equations of boundary value problems, using piecewise assumed interpolation functions within the domain of interest. In this presentation, we will show that the finite element method computes the strains as the best-fit in the least square error sense. The best-fit paradigm reveals the complete picture of the finite element computations and most importantly it offers more meaningful indicators for estimating errors in the finite element computation.
