As part of its unwavering commitment to supporting its students and fostering a safe and responsible campus environment, the Health & Safety and Security Department at the Australian University (AU) organized an awareness lecture titled “Drugs: The Illusion of Happiness and the Reality of Destruction,” in collaboration with the General Directorate for Drug Control at the Ministry of Interior. This initiative aligns with the university’s ongoing efforts to implement effective community responsibility programs aimed at protecting youth and empowering them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ayed Al Humaidan from the General Directorate for Drug Control, who highlighted the major risks of drug use and its health, psychological, and social impacts on young people. He also discussed recent legal updates under the new Drug Law No. 159 of 2025, in addition to outlining various types of narcotics, prevention methods, and early intervention strategies. He emphasized the importance of student awareness in protecting themselves and their peers and contributing to a healthier and safer community. The event was also attended by several representatives from the General Directorate for Drug Control, including Warrant Officer Abdulaziz Al Duwaila, Warrant Officer Hussain Haider, and Warrant Officer Jasem Al Sayegh, underscoring the Ministry’s continued support for community-awareness initiatives within educational institutions.
This event is part of a broader series of integrated programs launched by AU to promote preventive awareness, grounded in the belief that educational institutions are key partners in supporting national efforts to reduce social risks. The lecture also featured a booth prepared by the Ministry of Interior, offering detailed information on drug classification, legal procedures, and safety guidelines, along with an open discussion that allowed students and staff to ask questions and receive clarifications.
In closing, Mr. Abdulmohsen Al Rifai, Senior Manager of Health and Safety and Security at AU, emphasized the importance of organizing such awareness events, especially in educational settings. He stressed the importance of “the university joining efforts with families to protect and safeguard young people, who are the foundation and future of society.”
