Asphaltene deposition is one of the most persistent flow assurance challenges in oil and gas production, often developing unnoticed until severe operational problems occur. This seminar presents an integrated numerical framework for predicting asphaltene precipitation, aggregation, transport, and deposition in space and time along production systems. The approach couples thermodynamics, multiphase flow, heat transfer, and particle dynamics to realistically capture evolving wellbore conditions. The framework enables proactive flow assurance decisions, which shift asphaltene management from reactive intervention to early prevention.

Dr. Ahmed Aql

Dr. Ahmed Aql is a postdoctoral fellow at Kuwait University (KU) and a core member of the KU Flow Assurance and Multiphase in Energy Systems (FLAMES), an International collaborative research consortium led by Prof. Eissa Al-Safran, a well-known authority in flow assurance and multiphase flow. Dr. Aql addresses some of the most challenging problems in modern energy systems, including multiphase flow instabilities, flow assurance, CO₂ transportation and injection, and unconventional artificial-lift applications. Currently, he is focused on developing the country's first field-validated Asphaltene Integrated Model (AIM), which is funded by the Kuwait Oil Company.

Dr. Aql earned his BSc and MSc from Kuwait University and his PhD from the University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK, USA. Dr. Aql is an SPE member and served as the President of the Graduate Student Association at the University of Tulsa, representing more than 1,100 graduate students. In addition, his services and leadership have been recognized through his election to Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest multidisciplinary honor society in the United States.
