Engineering Students from the Australian University (AU) secured second place in the Kuwait AI Summit, highlighting the university’s continued commitment to innovation and emerging technologies.
The event was hosted by the Arab Open University, featuring more than 18 projects represented by various Kuwait’s universities. AU students from Civil Engineering department Salman Hussain and Yousef Albkoor earned recognition for their graduation project, which was supervised by Dr. Ahmed Assad, Assistant Professor at AU. The project utilizes advanced YOLO deep-learning models to classify 15 types of heavy construction equipment with an accuracy of 94%, providing a powerful AI solution for real-time site monitoring, safety enhancement, and operational efficiency.
This achievement underscores AU’s dedication to empowering students with the skills and opportunities needed to excel in next-generation engineering fields.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Assad said: “This achievement reflects our commitment to equipping our civil engineering students with the skills and knowledge needed to lead the digitalization of the construction industry. Through hands-on training in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision, we aim to prepare our students for the emerging era of Construction 4.0 and the technological transformation shaping our field.”
