Strengthening for Existing Steel Members
About this Topic
This seminar presents guidelines for strengthening existing steel beams, columns, and connections. Relevant code requirements of the International Existing Building Code and the 2016 AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings will be discussed. Several rectification types will be presented, including welded plate reinforcing, and the introduction of composite action. Using the design procedures of the 2016 AISC Specification, this seminar will present detailed life strengthening examples that can be used as a reference in future work.

Dr. Seham has 20 years of experience in steel structures as a designer, scientist, and researcher and holds a Ph. D. in civil engineering (Steel structure) from Ain Shams University, Egypt. She worked as a lecturer of steel structures for +12 years then joined Kirby MEA in 2012 and is currently responsible as engineering technical manager for training and development of Kirby (Alghanim Industry) across MEA engineering offices. She has published extensively in the area of Lateral buckling behavior and strengthening techniques at Elsevier Journal. She has an American Society of Civil Engineering Membership (ASCE).
